Why We Do This - And What We Can Do For You
Thirty years, two exits, and a promise that removes the risk of getting this wrong.
If you've gone looking for help with AI - transformation, automation, integration, someone to finally make sense of where AI fits into your business - you've probably typed "AI consultant" or "how do I integrate AI into my business" into a search bar and waded through the results. And what a minefield it is. Seems that everyone's an expert in AI nowadays, right? Every agency has added "AI" to their homepage. So much so it's become genuinely hard to tell who has actually built anything and who is just looking to cash-in on the current thing.
It's worth saying straight away: there's a couple of terms we're not completely happy with being referred to as. The first of those is "consultants". Consultants advise, invoice, and leave you holding a slide deck. What we offer runs much deeper: oversight, an honest assessment, a plan - and then, if you want it, the building of what it is you need. We will consult, but we'll also build, deploy, and then see it through to the end. And pretty much everything in between. Secondly, we're also not an "agency". An agency will sell you someone elses off-the-shelf product, and nobody here is good at selling, especially with buzzwords. We're builders, pragmatic doers and we genuinely know our stuff. We've been doing this for decades and have the pedigree and receipts to prove it. And here's the big take-away, every requirement is unique - anyone trying to fit square pegs into round holes just ends up burning money and doing more damage than good. Sure, we use software written by someone else, but the latest and best software, the one that fits your particular operation.
But rather than just telling you we're different, let's run through who we are, what we do, and make you a promise that should tell you everything about how confident we are in the work we provide.
Thirty years, two exits, and a decision to come home
Before this, there was a long road behind us. Thirty years of building technology businesses, a good stretch of that based in Los Angeles and San Francisco, in the rooms where the modern internet was being assembled. We've worked at Google on AdSense, having joined through Applied Semantics - the company whose technology became the foundation of Google's contextual advertising business. Later came wholly owned platforms such as Adshack.com, an advertising platform we grew and eventually sold to Yahoo.
None of this is mentioned to impress you. It's mentioned because when someone offers to guide your company's AI adoption, the only questions that matter are: have they actually done this before, at a level where it counted? We have - repeatedly, on both sides of the Atlantic, and long before "AI" was the buzzword on everyone's homepage. And am I being sold a pup or something completely useless? That's the big one - and yes this is a big problem. Everything we build is gold-standard. We're not partners or tied to any platform, AI engine or software provider. AI advancements are moving so fast right now, tethering yourself to any one single technology is a gamble that we're just not willing to make. And neither should you.
These days, the work that gives us the most genuine enjoyment isn't in Silicon Valley boardrooms. It's helping real businesses - from owner-operated SME's to 200-person firms that actually run this country - we work where AI genuinely fits into a business, and then actually build it. Properly. Future-proofing all that we do. And without a scary price tag attached. Turns out this is far more satisfying than another season of pitch decks and words nobody really understands.
The correct approach (and the one to avoid)
Our typical method is simple to describe and is one that is tried and tested. It overcomes every common objection and typical fear: build in parallel, customise, and then prove it.
Build AI In Parallel meaning that nothing you currently rely on gets ripped out on day one. We build and deploy AI tools and functions alongside your existing operation - from planning to the build we create automation in parallel with how it's currently done. That normally starts with something small, a function that quietly handles something repetitive, we'll integrate it with the systems you already run, tools your team actually uses. And in the unlikely event it doesn't work out or earn its keep, then we'll switch it off and your business never missed a beat.
Customise means whetever gets built is designed for you and your operation - *your* processes, your data, your customers - owned by you. Not the other way around. And not a generic software subscription that only part relates to what you need or where every competitor gets the same identical product on the exact same day. And because everything we build is designed to move with the technology, you're not locked into one vendor, or one platform, or one moment in a market that's reinventing itself by the week.
Prove It means experimenting on your business. Everything we deploy is tested the way you'd test a new employee: carefully, with oversight, and kept apart before it's trusted with anything that matters. That doesn't mean sacrificing speed. You'll be able to use whatever we build from day one - go ahead, test it, use it, then tell us about any improvements you'd like to make.
Through the whole process - from the first conversation, to identifying the opportunities, to build and deployment - you're spoken to in plain English, kept informed at every step, and you keep full ownership and oversight of everything at all times. What we build is collaborative, as it should be, not some smoke and mirrors show performed from behind a curtain - and where you only get updates every quarter. And if what your business needs from us stops after we've given you a written plan - a clear, honest AI adoption roadmap or a white paper your board can actually use - that's ok. We regard that a completed engagement, not a failed state.
The promise
Ok, here it is, the cheesy bit - but we mean every word of it:
If our work doesn't save you or make your business more than we bill you - you can pay us the lesser amount. Call it a non quibble guarantee or a risk free bet. We'll charge you the lesser amount of either our invoice or the cost savings our work delivered. Sound fair?
That's the arrangement. We can offer this for one reason: in all the time we've been working with our clients, we've never once had to honour this promise, never even came close. The mapping we do up front - finding the places where AI demonstrably pays for itself in your operation before anything gets built - makes the promise safe to give. But you shouldn't have to take that on faith, so you don't have to.
Where we work
We'll work anywhere, honestly. And have. We've worked in most areas of the UK and abroad, and remote collaboration is second nature to us having working in this industry for thirty years. Ideally, any business or organisation within a daily commute of Portsmouth is the dream ticket - but not a pre-requisite. Southampton, Winchester, Chichester, Guildford, Brighton, Bournemouth - and yes, London, we'll make the train journey at 6am without complaint. There's nothing better than being able to visit client ops, sit with your actual team, learn from the coal face where the pinch points are in practice and see an operation running that no video call quite replaces. AI transformation done well is a team sport.
So if you're a business on the south coast - or anywhere, but especially here - wondering whether AI could genuinely help your company, and you'd rather hear it straight from someone who's built and exited at the highest level of this industry than from an agency reading from a script: do get in touch. The first conversation costs nothing - we'll happily talk about your plans or concerns for free. The plan we'll build for you after comes at a fixed-price, and the promise above applies to everything there after.
